Mom’s Dedication!

I’m here to write about a dedication that was done in my mom’s honor back in October at Elmhurst College. They not only got a brick for her, but they also dedicated a tree and a plaque and also had a ceremony for her. Luckily the weather held up, seeing as it was in October. The service was very beautiful. I gave a speech, but after listening to the other speeches, I almost didn’t make it through mine, luckily Aunt Judy was there to help me until I was ready to take over again.

Here is mom’s brick:

Next is a picture before they revealed mom’s plaque:

Here is mom’s plaque, which we love, and then also a picture of her tree!

The following are some photos of myself, dad, Darrell & Aunt Judy with mom’s brick and plaque. Also, one of me with the flowers I was given by the college.

All in all, it was a very nice, sad, moving ceremony. We are very happy that Elmhurst College did this for mom. It doesn’t take away from what happened to her, or the fact that she isn’t coming back. However, it is a little nice to know that this plaque and brick will be here forever, and that anyone passing by will either remember her by seeing them, or maybe someone who didn’t know her will wonder who she was, and what made her so special. For me, that is a little comforting. I do ok when we try to remember her each day. The day where I don’t remember, or no one remembers, is a very scary day for me. I don’t want it to ever come to that. I can keep her alive when we all remember her….so lets do that! Let’s always remember how great of a person my mom was, and how she not only made her families lives great, but she touched so many others as well….you might just be one of those people that Kathy Langstraat touched and now your life is better because you knew her.
